Superintendent's Parent and Community Update

Posted Date: 6/05/25 (5:15 PM)

A quick reminder: Tomorrow, Friday, June 6, is the last day of school with an early release at 12:00 p.m.

Dear Families and Soap Lake Community,

As we close out the 2024–2025 school year, I want to extend my sincere thanks to our families and community for your support and partnership throughout this exciting year of growth and achievement. Together, we’ve made important progress, and I am looking forward to all that’s ahead in the fall!

First, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make our end-of-year celebrations so special. From preschool, TK, and Kindergarten celebrations to 6th and 8th-grade promotions and the senior awards and graduation ceremony, each event was a wonderful reminder of the pride we share in our students and the community that supports them.

Congratulations to all our student-athletes who represented Soap Lake at state competitions this spring, and best wishes to our football team members heading off to an exciting camp in Montana this week!

You may have seen recent positive news coverage in the Columbia Basin Herald, our district’s financial audit was completed with no findings, a completely clean audit! This is a significant accomplishment, and I want to thank our business office team for their outstanding work in ensuring that our district remains on strong financial footing.

We’re also excited to announce that Soap Lake School District has been awarded a $5 million OSPI Air Quality Grant. This will allow us to upgrade the elementary school’s heating and cooling system, moving from a 2-pipe to a 4-pipe system. Once completed, each classroom will have its own temperature control, creating a more comfortable learning environment and improving energy efficiency. This project is planned for summer 2026.

Several other important facility improvements are underway this summer. Please observe restricted access signage where marked:
  • Elementary Roof Replacement: Roofing materials have arrived, and Krueger Sheetmetal will begin work next week to replace the elementary school roof.
  • Parking Lot Striping: Scheduled for next Tuesday and Wednesday in the main lot.
  • New Boilers and Chiller Installation: Apex Mechanical will begin work on June 16th to install new boilers at both schools, a new chiller at the elementary school, and perform electrical upgrades district-wide.
Other improvements include:
  • Replacement of crumbling concrete near the high school’s back entrance this summer.
  • New handheld stop signs for use by supervising staff to improve safety and efficiency during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up next year in the parking lot and crosswalks.
Looking ahead to next year, we are excited to be updating our instructional materials:
  • New Math Curriculum: Reveal Math will be introduced for grades K–8.
  • New English Language Arts Curriculum: My Perspectives will be implemented for grades 7–12.
We are also improving technology access:
  • ClassLink Single Sign-On (SSO): Staff and students will be able to log in once to securely access multiple applications. No more remembering multiple passwords!
  • Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): To enhance security, 2FA will be required for logging into Google and Skyward accounts starting next school year.
One important update for families: Due to lower-than-expected community interest, we will not be able to offer free summer meals in Soap Lake this year. However, free summer meals will be available in nearby Ephrata, including a drive-up option.

Finally, a big thank you to our facilities staff for keeping our grounds beautiful and well-maintained—it’s appreciated more than you know!

It has been a pleasure working with our students, families, and community this year. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to build a strong future for Soap Lake students. I wish you all a safe, restful, and enjoyable summer.

Warmly,
Angela Rolfe
