Students
Overview
We are excited to share our district’s 2025-2026 Growth and Achievement Plan, which will guide our immediate efforts while we develop a longer-term strategic plan with input from all stakeholders over the next year. This plan is designed to strengthen student achievement, enhance social-emotional learning, and increase engagement between students, families, and the school. Our plan is built on the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), which provides targeted interventions in reading, math, and behavior based on student needs.

Key Components of the Plan

  • Reading and Math Support: We are implementing research-based curricula to ensure every student has access to high-quality instruction and interventions at all grade levels.
  • Social-Emotional Learning and Behavior Support: We will use structured programs to promote positive behaviors, conflict resolution, and emotional well-being.
Puzzle pieces
  • Professional Development: Teachers will receive training in best practices, including strategies to support English Language Learners and inclusive instruction.
  • Family and Community Engagement: We are committed to strengthening our partnership with families through consistent communication.
  • Behavior Tracking and Support through PBISApps: We will utilize EC-SWIS for Preschool and Transition to Kindergarten programs, SWIS for behavior tracking, CICO-SWIS for Check-in/Check-out interventions, and I-SWIS for individual student behavior tracking.

Below, we provide further details on these initiatives and how they will benefit our students.

Academic Achievement in Reading and Math

To improve student outcomes, we will implement a tiered instructional approach.
Child reading to a group of students
At the elementary level:

  • Tier 1 (Core Instruction): All students will receive high-quality instruction using research-based curricula. For reading, we use HMH Into Reading for Grades K-6. In math, we implement Ready Math and iReady for targeted instruction.
  • Tier 2 (Small Group Support): Students needing additional help will participate in small-group interventions using Really Great Reading (for foundational reading skills) and iReady and Origo Math (for targeted math interventions).
  • Tier 3 (Intensive Support): Students requiring intensive support will receive individualized interventions, including Really Great Reading, SPIRE and Edmark for reading and customized math interventions.
For Grades 7-12, we are evaluating curriculum options for Language Arts while using HMH Into Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2 for math instruction in grades 9-12. In grades 7 & 8, Ready Math and iReady provide the foundation to our math core. Additionally, we are implementing blocked schedules for Grades 7-8 to allow extra time for students needing intervention.

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and Behavior Support
We are expanding our SEL programs to create a positive school climate:

Elementary Level
  • Sanford Harmony and Restorative Practices will be used for all students.
  • Targeted interventions such as Zones of Regulation and Social Thinking will support students needing additional assistance.
  • A student support paraeducator will provide extra guidance for students with behavioral needs.
  • Behavior Tracking: We will use EC-SWIS for Preschool and Transition to Kindergarten programs. We will use SWIS for tracking overall student behavior data. We will implement CICO-SWIS to track progress for students in Check-in/Check-out interventions and I-SWIS for individualized behavior tracking and support.

Secondary Level
  • Character Strong will be implemented for all students.
  • Targeted interventions such as Zones of Regulation and Social Thinking will support students needing additional assistance.
  • Check-in/Check-out (CICO) will support students needing structured intervention.
  • Behavior Tracking: We will use SWIS for tracking overall student behavior data. We will implement CICO-SWIS to track progress for students in Check-in/Check-out interventions and I-SWIS for individualized behavior tracking.
  • Data tracking will ensure discipline and behavioral concerns are addressed proactively.
  • A Student Assistance Professional at the middle and high school level to provide additional support.

We will provide Restorative Practices training, led by Kelvin Oliver, to help educators manage conflicts and improve student relationships. We will also provide equity training, based on Belonging through a Culture of Dignity, by John Krownapple.

MTSS: Steps and Processes

The Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a structured approach to ensuring every student receives the level of support needed to succeed. The following steps outline how we implement MTSS across academics, behavior, and social-emotional learning:

  1. Universal Screening: All students are assessed to identify strengths and areas of need in reading, math, and behavior.
  2. Data-Driven Decision Making: Educators use screening results and other performance data to determine which students require additional support.
  3. Tiered Support Implementation:
  • Tier 1: High-quality instruction and positive behavioral interventions provided to all students.
  • Tier 2: Targeted interventions for students identified as needing additional assistance.
  • Tier 3: Intensive, individualized support for students with significant academic or behavioral challenges.
  1. Progress Monitoring: Students receiving Tier 2 or Tier 3 support are regularly monitored to track improvement and adjust interventions as necessary.
  2. Collaboration and Problem-Solving Teams: Teachers, specialists, and administrators meet to review data, discuss student progress, and adjust interventions accordingly.
  3. Family Involvement: Parents and guardians are informed about student progress and engaged in developing strategies to support learning at home.
  4. Continuous Improvement: The MTSS framework is continuously refined based on data analysis and feedback to ensure its effectiveness.
Through this approach, we aim to ensure that all students, regardless of their needs, receive the right level of support to succeed academically and socially.
